Welcome to the website of the Bond of the Vermeulen Family. (Also referred to as The Association of the Vermeulen Family). Among other things, the Bond is responsible for the research and updating of the genealogical registers of our ancestors Jan Willemsz Vermeulen and Dirk Cornelisz Vermeulen.
On 16 September 2021 the genealogy of Jan contains of 5263 names and that of Dirk 18283 names. This include persons already dead, persons still alive as well as spouses of Vermeulens.
The Vermeulens of South Africa are originally from the Netherlands. It is derived from the surname Van der Meulen (mill in Nederlands molen). Today, the surname Vermeulen is the most carried in the Netherlands, then South Africa and then Belgium. (with acknowledgement to Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia ).

Research has been done since 1989/1990 and the Bond was established on 3 March 2000.

The Bond disbanded on 23 August 2025 due to waning interest. The webpage will still be active until 10.04.2028. However, the Vermeulen genealogy register will still be maintained and Vermeulen descendants can still enquire about their family or have their information updated in the genealogy register. Although the outbreak of the worldwide Coronavirus pandemic so far has not had a major impact on the activities of the Bond, the pandemic and the consequent restraining measures have had a major negative impact on the lifestyle and occupational activities of our members which has resulted in of our members as well as other Vermeulen descendants are suffering financially. The necessary holding of the general members' meeting and management meeting by means of aanlyn virtual online platform is also the direct result of this pandemic. We are aware of Vermeulen descendants who died as a result of the virus but so far we have not lost any Bond members due to Covid does not. The management of the Bond therefore wishes all members and Friends all the best and trusts that everyone will remain healthy and safe.
